The story of the CAF Red Tail Project is one of both glory and
sorrow. The first restoration of Red Tail completed project
leader and pilot Don Hinz’s dream but ended tragically in 2004
when the aircraft crashed and Hinz lost his life. Restoration
efforts began anew and the P-51C Mustang returned to flight in
2009. The aircraft is painted in the colors of and is named
for the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American
WWII fighter pilots. |
|
The aircraft is owned by the Commemorative Air Force and
assigned to the Minnesota Wing. Doug Rozendaal is a member of
that Wing, worked along side other volunteers on the
restoration project, and pilots Red Tail in air shows
throughout the United States.
Join us as Doug recounts the Red Tail Project including
presentation of a short video, “The Flight of The Red Tail.” |
