The Commemorative Air Force
Jayhawk Wing supports Home Schooling. We have a
program called the "VETERANS LECTURESHIP".
It is about an hour long
program where we open up our hangar or come to your site to
have the students listen to and visit with living history,
the World War II Veteran.
At present we have three
World War II combat pilots that share their stories after a
short video.
If the lecture takes place in our hangar. There will
be actual World War II aircraft setting in the hangar and
creates an atmosphere of hands on learning. If
we come to your site things will be done a little different
and can be adjusted to your time schedule. There will
be picture, artifacts and other items these men brought
back.
Dr. Smith, a combat B-17
combat pilot, saved a peace of anti-aircraft shrapnel from a
flack burst that hit his airplane. He found it under
his seat and he said from that day forward he sat on a flack
jacket! Dr. Smith has many combat pictures and other
items the students will want to look at and hear the story
behind them. Charles
Chauncey, a B-29 combat pilot, flew the B-29 GOIN' JESSIE,
on bombing missions over Japan during the Pacific theater of
the war. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross
and many other commendations and medals. A normal
single ship mission could last 18 hours. We lost many
planes and men lost their lives on these bombing missions.
See his B-29 model airplane which would be on display.
He has a stand alone lecture called "THE MOST DANGEROUS
MISSION". Great for adult meetings, organizations and
gatherings! Al Murphy,
a combat B-17 combat pilot, flew in the European theater
during World War II. After a bombing mission his B-17
bomber lost it's engines and he and the crew had to bail out
over hostile territory. His story of how he gets shot
at by the enemy and his eventual escape back to the American
lines will have you setting on the edge of your seat.
Mr. Murphy also was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross
and many other medals and commendations during his service
to our country during World War II.
These men are heroes!
